More undergraduate courses will be introduced in the upcoming academic year to support the welfare of the student community and enhance their employment opportunities.
Laboratory services play a vital role in the diagnosis and study of various diseases, forming the backbone of effective medical treatment. With rapid advancements in laboratory science, Dindigul Shifa College of Health Sciences (DSCHS) has established modern laboratory facilities and comprehensive technologist training programs to meet the growing demand. Today’s healthcare system requires competent medical laboratory technologists with advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills across all branches of laboratory technology. In response to this need, DSCHS offers the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Medical Laboratory Technology, a program affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, designed to prepare students for successful careers in clinical diagnostics and laboratory science.
The specialty of Anaesthesia has witnessed remarkable advancements both scientifically and technologically, enabling complex surgical procedures across all age groups—from newborns to geriatric patients. With the increasing sophistication of surgical techniques, the equipment used in anaesthesia has become more advanced and specialized. This evolution has created a growing demand for highly skilled Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technologists who can support anaesthesiologists in administering anaesthesia and managing critical monitoring systems. At Dindigul Shifa College of Health Sciences, the three-year B.Sc. in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology program offers comprehensive training in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, medicine, general nursing principles, sterilization techniques, and medical ethics. Students gain hands-on experience in ICUs and operation theatres, and are trained in anaesthetic management across specialties like obstetrics, pediatrics, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and general surgery. They are also exposed to anaesthesia services outside the operating room, including radiology suites, cardiac catheterization labs, endoscopy units, and day-care theatres. In addition, trainees undergo practical training in Basic Life Support (BLS), airway management, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are fully equipped to assist anaesthesiologists in all types of surgeries and emergency medical situations.
The B.Sc. Radiography and Imaging Technology program is offered by the Department of Radiology under the affiliation of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. This three-year course provides structured training across all key radiological modalities, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and DSA, with regular assessments each academic year. Classes are conducted by a dedicated team of radiographers, radiologists, medical physicists, and doctors from various specialties. Students receive hands-on training in all imaging departments, starting with plain X-rays, barium studies, and intravenous urograms—where they are closely supervised and gradually allowed to operate the equipment independently. In advanced imaging units like CT scan, MRI, and Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), students gain substantial exposure to cutting-edge diagnostic tools used for complex cases such as tumors and vascular anomalies. They also attend shared classes in anatomy, physiology, and medical ethics along with other paramedical students. During the internship, trainees actively participate in radiological investigations under expert supervision. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are well-prepared for career opportunities in hospitals, diagnostic centers, and research institutions—both in India and abroad.
Graduates of the B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) have diverse and rewarding career opportunities in the healthcare sector. They can work as Medical Lab Technicians, conducting critical diagnostic tests that support accurate treatment decisions. Those with experience can advance to roles such as Laboratory Manager, overseeing lab operations and quality control. Opportunities also include becoming a Medical Record Technician, maintaining patient data with precision, or a Medical Coder, converting healthcare procedures into standardized codes for insurance and records. Some graduates may also take up roles as Resident Medical Officers in clinical laboratories or hospitals. With growing demand for diagnostic services in both India and abroad, MLT professionals are vital contributors to modern healthcare systems.
Graduates of the B.Sc in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology (OT & AT) have a wide range of career opportunities in both public and private healthcare sectors. They can work as Operation Theatre Technicians, assisting in surgical procedures and maintaining OT hygiene and equipment. Professionals can also pursue roles in Anaesthesia Technology, supporting anaesthesiologists during surgeries and critical care. Career openings are available in Medical Universities and Allied Health Schools as educators or trainers, as well as in Outpatient Care Centers, where they assist with minor procedures and patient monitoring. Additionally, there is strong demand in Government and Private Hospitals, where OT and anaesthesia technologists are essential members of the surgical team, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient operation theatre functioning.
Graduates of the B.Sc in Radiography & Imaging Technology have excellent career prospects in both public and private healthcare sectors. They can work as Radiology Technicians, assisting in X-ray and diagnostic imaging procedures. Skilled professionals are also in demand as Ultrasound Technicians, playing a key role in sonography and prenatal care. With advanced training, graduates can become MRI Technicians, operating high-end magnetic imaging systems used in complex diagnostics. The program equips students with the technical expertise and clinical exposure required to thrive in hospitals, diagnostic centers, imaging clinics, and research institutions, both in India and abroad.
